About + Innovation Claim

SIP Game Mechanic

PosTear is a SIP all about two things, paper and puzzles. PosTear provides innovation through its “Tearing” mechanic, which allows the player to rip off certain sections of terrain and attach the torn bits to other terrain in order to solve puzzles.

The Concept

Look and Feel of the Project

The idea behind PosTear was to expand upon previously unexplored depths of arts and crafts puzzles. Taking inspiration from pop-out books and how their appearance shifts based on user interaction, PosTear gives the player free reign on how they interact with set pieces to find their own puzzle solution.

Core Mechanics

The Meat and Potatoes

PosTear is a Puzzle Platforming game where the player uses a Popup book sandbox that they are given to fold out set pieces and craft their way to the goal. Utilizing the moving parts of pull tabs and other Popup book utilities, players will be able to rip off pieces of interactable pieces in order to attach them to other interactable pieces in a Frankenstein-like manner.

Usage Scenarios

What Can the Player Do?

With the current prototype of this SIP, the player can interact with the two demo platforms as they see fit, in order to solve a test puzzle. For an example, a player could take off a piece of a staircase, and attach that torn piece to a platform or another asset in order to extend the platforms potential reach, or allow the player to reach areas that are too high up. As the project stands, the proof of concept shows intractability between a staircase and an elevated platform, being able to take off one to add to another, and solve a simple puzzle.
